ARTIST STATEMENT
In my work, I examine different possibilities of visualizing a human body which I perceive as an environmental organism. I am often inspired by aesthetics of caricatures and illustrations which are normally considered as “lower art”. The painting process is expressive and almost intuitive as I work in layers, I overpaint which results in the final image being an outcome of destroying original images in advantage to find the definite version. The principle of processing my work is characteristic by gradually changing abstraction into specific shapes, which I believe I go the opposite direction as expected, seeing that the history of art shows leading to abstraction from ambition to picture reality. My newest paintings come through capturing whole figures in contrast with my previous portrait paintings. In my recent works, I focused on bended bodies over objects, even burning objects. At first sight this motive seems to be surreal and can evoke different interpretations. This figural scene represents disappearance either in material or philosophical sense. It points at the loss of security, the loss of illusions, the loss of feeling which we take for granted. It points at human existence and its attachment to things/objects. I stylize the bodies into some anthropomorphic forms, bended limbs and hybrid postures dwelling on bodies and corporality. I image a human being in penetrative gestures quite often associated with attributes such as flowers, watches, cake which help providing motives with new symbolic dimension. For that reason, their interpretation can have many meanings. The connection between figures/bodies and physical objects come across paradoxically and sometimes even absurd insomuch that I can express different psychological or existentialist importance which I contently refer to my compositions.
